Our tour will lead you in the savannah of the Luangwa Valley, a wild place where you live to the wilderness rhythm, away from the cities troubles, enjoying the beautiful African night sky. We cross the Malawi to enjoy the happyness of the people fishing and the beauty of the waters of this lake, see the flight of the skilful fish eagle, and dancing in the moonlight with the children on the beaches of the lake! We will finish in Mozambique, a radical change of atmosphere: the beaches, almost empty, warm waters and a colored marine life and Caribbean atmosphere past sunset!

 

POINTS OF INTEREST

 

South Luangwa National Park is one of the best places in Africa to observe the surreptitious leopard. You can also enjoy night and day safaris. You can locate and observe the animals by following the traks they have left... crocodiles, hippos, giraffes, buffalos, wild dogs, all kinds of antelopes, monkeys, etc... and many many birds.

 

Lake Malawi: We go on our journey through the great forests of baobab trees, tea plantations, villages led to the shade of large mango,... and then we rest on the lake Malawi, that represent a third part of the territory. We will visit the fishing villages. We admire the majestic fish eagle in action above the waters. Its peculiar whistling will remain in your memories for ages. Sitting on the beach, you enjoy peace and serenity of the beautiful sunsets... Or maybe, if you're lucky, a group of toddlers, budding artists, you will dance to the sound of the instruments they are made!

 

Then we will arrive in Mozambique: the land of silence and large marine areas. It is time to enjoy the endless pleasures and the Indian Ocean beauty. white sand beaches, coconut trees, dunes, crystal clear waters teeming with life and color ... You can even, if you are courage enough, swim with the biggest fish, the whale shark. If you are lucky you can see humpback whales that come each year to breed and give birth in the Mozambique Channel ... and of course the simple snorkeling to admire the wealth of coral reefs...

ITINERARY

 

Day 1:
- Arrive in Lilongwe, the capital of Malawi, where we will camp to rest the long journey.
The country's capital is divided into two: the old and the new city. The oldest area has elegant hotels, embassies, offices, while the new one is filled with markets, bus stations, cafes, restaurants...
• Accommodation: camping.

 

Days 2, 3 and 4:
Safari in the South Luangwa National park.
We leave early to the Zambian national park. This park is the best known and most accessible of the Luangwa Valley. This park of over 9000 km2., has one of the highest wildlife concentration. It is also well known for its large herds of elephants (over 70) and buffalos (more than 1000 heads), and the river is full of hippos and crocodiles!

Day 5:
- Trip back to Lilongwe.
Meals included: breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Days 6 and 7:
- Cruise on Lake Malawi and visit fishing villages.
- Free time to enjoy the region: its people, landscapes,... Lake Malawi represent 1/3 of the country is the third largest lake in Africa. It plays a very important role in the life and economy of the country by the richness of its waters. Shores are dotted with fishing villages and their traditional practice attracts many visitors.
• Accommodation: camping at Monkey Bay.
• Meals included: breakfast, lunch and dinner.

 

Day 8:
- Visit Zomba Market and climb to the top of the mountain of the same name.
• Accommodation: Camping.
• Meals included: breakfast, lunch and dinner.

 

Day 9: Mulanje - Tete (Mozambique)
- Long day's journey.
- We pass through Blantyre and enter in Mozambique by road from Tete. The city of Tete is one of the hottest of the country as it is located in a lowland just 500 meters over sea level.
We will enjoy dinner around the campfire.
• Accommodation: camping near Tete.
• Meals included: breakfast, lunch and dinner.

 

Day 10: Tete - Lake Chicamba
A long day's drive to join Chicamba Lake, where we can relax in the pool, take a refreshment at the bar... to rest in a place with beautiful views, the mountain backdrop and the sky full of fish eagles.
• Accommodation: camping.
• Meals included: breakfast, lunch and dinner.

 

Day 11: Chicamba - Vilanculos
We are on way to the town of Vilanculos, where we'll arrive late in the afternoon after a long journey, and we will camp next to the beach!.
• Accommodation: camping in Vilanculos.
• Meals included: breakfast, lunch and dinner.

 

Day 12: Vilanculos
Vilanculos is the gateway to the Bazaruto archipelago, made up of four islands just 20kms from the coast, Bazaruto, Benguerra, Santa Carolina and Magaruque. They are also known as the Paradise Islands.
• Accommodation: camping at Vilanculos.
• Meals included: breakfast, lunch and dinner.

 

Day 13: Inhambane - Tofo Beach
After breakfast, we continue our journey along the coast towards Inhambane. It is a tropical zone, with white sandy beaches almost deserted and the clear and warm waters, yet unknown.
- Accommodation: camping at Tofo.
- Meals included: breakfast, lunch and dinner.

 

Day 14: Tofo Beach
You can enjoy the many activities (optional) will be proposed. Among other things, board a zodiac to meet the whale shark and enjoy privilege to swim with him. Depending on the season, you can leave in search of humpback whales that abound in these waters at summer times.
Accommodation: camping at Tofo.
• Meals included: breakfast, lunch and dinner.

 

Day 15:
- Day's drive to Maputo with overnight near Xai-Xai or Bilene.
We descend further south, still along the coast to establish our camp in the coastal town of Xai-Xai, about 200 kms north of Maputo. Xai-Xai is Gaza province capital, located on the banks of the River Limpopo.
• Accommodation: camping in Xai-Xai and Bilene.
• Meals included: breakfast, lunch and dinner.

 

Day 16:
Early morning departure for the capital inhabited by just over one million persons. It was founded in the eighteenth century by the Portuguese settlers, and had the original name Laurenço before being renamed Maputo to independence in 1975.
